J.I the Prince of NY - Live from National Sawdust, streaming exclusively on Happin

Posted by Daanish Rehman on Mar 30, 2021

This Saturday, J.I. the Prince of NY performed his much awaited show on Happin! With exclusive footage, he brought the thunder on a number of his hits from the National Sawdust. With a tendency for sticky melodies and tough honesty in his lyrics, the star has gathered co-signs from many heavy hitters including Cardi B, Drake, and Jadakiss.

Born Justin Rivera, J.I has been a player to watch since he was a contestant on Jermaine Dupri’s The Rap Game at the young age of 14. A child of Brooklyn, NY, J.I proclaims he had to grow up fast – a drive to get so good at something ‘when other people do it, they just look stupid trying to do it next to me’, after a failed basketball tryout at 12. He’s stuck true to his word, staying consistent to his grind all these years later. Influenced by the iconic sounds of his state, he began writing raps and freestyling after being inspired by artists like The Notorious B.I.G, Nas, DMX, Jay-Z, and Big Pun.

His breakout single “Need Me” put a global spotlight on him, racking up over 90 million streams on that song alone. His success has proven to not be a fluke, but rather an inevitability – releasing two whole projects in 2019, Hood Life Krisis Vol. 1 and Vol 2, J.I’s Instagram moniker ‘prince of NY’ quickly attached itself to his stage name. Both mixtapes landed on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, and was recognized by major publications like XXL, Genius, Complex amongst others. He’s also gone onto create history, being the first artist to ever sell out 3 consecutive nights at New York’s legendary SOB venue.

Playback is available for a limited period only, so if you missed it, make sure to get tickets exclusively only on Happin.
